Start, stop, record laps and reset this online stopwatch with a click or a key. It measures to the hundredth of a second and lists every lap with its own time and the running total, highlighting your fastest and slowest. It runs entirely in your browser; nothing is stored or sent.
How it works
When you press Start, the stopwatch records the exact clock time. The display shows the current time minus that starting point, plus anything built up before a stop, so the elapsed time is always read from the clock instead of being counted in steps. Browsers slow down timers in background tabs to save power, often to one update per second or less. A stopwatch that added up its own ticks would lose time there; this one re-reads the clock on its next update, so it is still exact when you come back to the tab. Pressing Lap records two numbers: the lap time, measured since the previous lap, and the total or split time since the start. Once there are at least two laps, the fastest and the slowest are highlighted. Stop pauses the clock, Start carries on from there, and Reset clears the time and the laps.
Worked example
Timing four 400 m laps on a track: press Space at the start and L each time you cross the line. If the laps take 1:42.18, 1:39.40, 1:44.05 and 1:41.90, the table shows splits of 1:42.18, 3:21.58, 5:05.63 and 6:47.53, with lap 2 marked as the fastest and lap 3 as the slowest. Press Space to stop and R to reset for the next run.
